Schola Sarmenti Primitivo Critera (Puglia, 75cl)

The first time I smelt this I got cherry jam and blackberry pie, so naturally a love affair with this wine ensued. Its spicy, which you expect from a primitivo, with a bit of vanilla and tobacco thrown in. The colour is dark, broodingand  dense. Silky tannins and a long, heady finish. Another favourite midweek alongside pasta fagioli  or on a Sunday with rabbit ragu.
